getting here
Chicago is served by two major airports, O'Hare International and Midway.
Getting from the airport to downtown:
1 – Public transportation
Both airports are served by a subway line ("El") which goes downtown. From O'Hare, board the Blue Line and get off at Clark and Lake. From there it is about 11 blocks to the Hotel InterContinental. You can go north, over the Chicago River, on Clark Street. At Illinois Street, go right to Michigan Avenue.
From Midway board the Orange Line and also get off at at Clark and Lake. Follow the directions given above.
Public transportation to the Ramada Lakeshore is a bit more difficult. Attendees staying at the hotel may want to consider the airport shuttle. From either airport, the El will take you downtown. From there, you can either board the Metra commuter rail to Hyde Park, or take the #6 Jackson Park Express Bus. The CTA website can help plan your travel.
2 –Airport Express Shuttle
O'Hare
Shuttles depart from O'Hare airport every 10-15 minutes for downtown service to Chicago hotels, downtown businesses, near north residential locations, and suburban locations. Our loading zones for boarding the Airport Express van are at Door 1E, Door 2D, and Door 3E across from baggage claim on the Baggage Claim level. At the international terminal we are located just outside Door 1E which is just outside of baggage claim and Customs. The last Airport Express van leaves O'Hare at 11:30 pm seven nights a week.
Airport Express Ticket Counters for purchasing tickets are located at Door 1E, Door 2D, and Door 3E lower level across from baggage claim on the Baggage Claim level.
Midway
Shuttles depart from Midway airport every 15 minutes for downtown service to Chicago hotels, downtown businesses and near north residential locations. Our airport express ticket counter and loading zone is located at Door 3, lower level across from baggage claim. Reservations from Midway to downtown are not necessary. The last Airport Express van leaves Midway at 10:30 pm seven nights a week.
3 – Taxicabs
Expect to spend approximately $25.00 to go downtown from either airport. Fares from O'Hare to Hyde Park (for the Ramada Lakeshore) will be more expensive, while rides from Midway to Hyde Park should be less expensive.
Getting to the Conference:
Charter bus service will be provided from the Hotel InterContinental to the conference. The bus will leave from the hotel each morning, and leave from campus to return to the hotel at then end of each day. If you are not staying at the hotel, or do not wish to travel by charter, there are other options available, including commuter rail, taxi, and bus.
The Metra rail leaves from the station at the intersection of Randolph and Michigan Avenues. The train takes about 20 minutes to get to the 55th-56th-57th Street stop. Schedules can be found here. From the station stop, it is about a 15 minute walk to campus.
There are a number of bus routes that travel through or near to campus. The #6 Jackson Park Express, the #171 are two well-traveled routes. Please see the CTA website for detailed maps.
Expect an average taxi ride from downtown to campus to cost approximately 15 dollars. Ride sharing is allowed in Chicago taxis.
